Everyday Skincare Splurge Vs. Save

Skincare products and treatments have always been near and dear to my heart! While I was in college, I worked as a receptionist for a local spa; because of that experience, I learned so much about skincare! It was there that I first learned about Dermalogica and Obagi products; which, are two of my favorite go-to brands. When it comes to purchasing drugstore vs high end skincare lines, I think my preference falls somewhere in the middle. I usually splurge a little more on skincare correctives (e.g. serums and retinoids) while keeping most of my basic items (e.g. cleansers and moisturizers) budget friendly. I especially try to avoid buying hyped-up luxury items that leave me with buyers remorse! Some of my favorite places to shop for skincare products are Amazon, Dermstore, Target, and my local Walgreens (does anyone else get really excited about drugstore shopping?!)
My skin type: I have combination skin that is very sensitive! My main concern is with redness in the cheek area due to rosacea. I still get the occasional breakout, too.

Now that you know a little about my skin I'm going to talk about products that work for me! If there are products you love and think I should try, please comment below! I always love discovering new products!

Cleansers: My favorite cleansers are just very basic ones. I want it to remove everything from the day without over-drying my skin. I typically prefer gel or foaming cleansers because I have found that they are more effective at breaking up my makeup! If I’m being completely honest, cleansers are one thing that I don’t believe have to be a higher-end brand. I really love Dermalogica special cleansing gel, but even so I find myself getting a more budget friendly option so I can invest in products that really treat my skin!
Splurge: Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel Save: EltaMD Foaming Face Wash
Save: Purpose Gentle Cleansing Gel

Micellar water: I like to use this after I wash my face to make sure no residue is left behind. I will occasionally use this in the am in lieu of face wash if I’m in a hurry. Both of these brands are very budget friendly! I’m currently using the Bioderma and before that I was using the Garnier Fructis. I love them both and will typically be using whichever I found on sale!
Splurge: Bioderma Micellar Water Save: Ganier Fructis Micellar Water

Vitamin C serum: This is the first thing that goes on my skin each morning after cleansing. I’ve been using Vitamin C serum for about 6 months and have noticed a HUGE difference in my skin. My skin tone seems to be a lot more even and glowier in general. It’s a win win!
Splurge: Obagi Vitamin C Serum Save: Timeless Vitamin C Serum

Daily moisturizer: This is another item that I personally have not found necessary to splurge on. I am currently using CeraVe PM moisturizing lotion (I use this AM and PM) and have found I love it just as much as my Dermalogica.
Splurge: Dermalogica Active Moist Save: CeraVe

Daily sunscreen: With age comes wisdom and with wisdom comes sunscreen! :) I’ll be the first to admit I’ve been an SPF slacker in the past. Since turning 30, I have made a diligent effort to use it EVERY DAY on my face, neck, and chest. Elta MD is hands down my favorite! I'm currently using UV-clear tinted which also doubles as my everyday foundation since it’s tinted. A more budget friendly option is Neutrogenas healthy defense daily moisturizer with SPF 50. It's lightweight and has never caused any irritation with my skin. This can also be mixed with a small drop of foundation to make it tinted.
That’s it! My skincare routine isn’t too complicated, but it has certainly made a difference! Cleanse, treat, moisturize, and always use an SPF for your morning routine!
